The Technical School was founded in the 1930s, and was mixed taking children post junior school who had not got into either the City of Bath Boys or Girls Schools. A second exam apparently got you into either The Tech or The Art School -not sure it was choice.

The original school building was opposite to Beau St Baths in what is now the Old Tech College Building.

When war broke out the school was requisitioned by the MOD, and classes were held in a variety of sites, including St James's Hall, St Johns Crypt, Manvers St, and a site where Marks and Spencers is/was, which narrowly escaped a direct hit during the Baedecker bombings.

This system was in place after the war until the boys went to Brougham Hayes, and girls to either the new Oldfield Girls School, West Twerton Girls and the Dioscesan. It became more selective after the 11 plus with boys also going to Westhill or Oldfield boys.

The Tech school was the 1st to hold a school service in the Abbey in Bath.
