Welcome Graham

Steve, I have tried the site with Mozilla Firefox and
Internet Explorer and don,t have any problems at all, if you are using
internet explorer try going to tools ( right hand side of top
toolbar) then click click on internet options) from the drop down
menu, click on the tab to delete browsing history, this sometimes clears
these sort of problems as you may be viewing old pages stored by your
PC, hope this helps

Hi Rich, The Lanhams my folks rented the basement of
'The Yews' from in 1946 until 1950 (their house in Bexley Heath was
requisitioned by the Admiralty when Dad was posted to Bath in 1939 and
they did not get it back until 1951!) were connected with Lanhams Tyres.
The son was called Peter and he must be about 70 now. 'The Yews' is now
the rectory for St.Saviours Church, Larkhall. Graham

Hello Graham,
I was in touch with Peter Lanham and he visited my Dad in Bath last
year. He is a retired schoolmaster and lives in Cumbria. His Dad was
Leonard Lanham who indeed started Lanham's Tyres. Small world isn't it ?

Hello Rich, Well there you go. I was only 5 when we
left 'The Yews', our new house 'Briar Cottage' Dowding Rd. still stands,
but my sister (who is 5 years older) remembers him and his sister.
Another teacher too! A bit like recalling the prefects at school. My
wife's friend at college married one who bossed me about. David
Atchison. My oft told tale is trying to sneak up the playground stairs
to stay out of the rain at playtime one September. I had on a new black
blazer from Smartwear. I was trying to get to the scullery on the middle
floor where you could stay out of sight. Dave got me after the first
flight of stairs, threw me down them and my blazer ripped under the arm!
I fibbed to my mother that it was a design fault and she marched me
straight to the shop where I had to lie again! I got a new blazer but my
sins will find me out one day! Graham

Hi all.
Thanks for posting the photos Graham, real gems!
Good to see that you are all still chatting on. I will admit that I
had forgotten all about Lanham's Tyres so would not have made the
association, but now you have all discussed the relationship, it's
rather obvious really.
Does this mean that Rich is wealthy and can we all tap him up for a bob or two?
Loved the story about the blazer Graham, the point is you got away
with it and I think it is probably too late for the confessional now.
Have to go now as I have an early start in the morning. Away to Burnley for the week.
I'll stick my oar in again next week end.
Have fun.
Sticky.

Hi John,
By all means tap me up for a Bob or Two, but that's about as far as
the wealth goes !!! Lanham's Tyres were about 4th cousins and I reckon
we were well down the pecking order !!Never mind, I'm happy !!
Rich
PS. I can only see number 6 of Graham's pictures.........any ideas ? All the others are just small blue pictures !!

Rich, Not sure why the other pictures are just icons.
They were all created the same way as '6'. They open if you click on the
single one to the left. Graham

Hi All, Belated welcome to Graham, whose
photographs are great. For someone who has been away from the UK for
many moons the photographs bring back many memories. The last one
with the location of Fishy Evans. From memory, I think that
Fishy Evans before locating to their current position had an entrance as
shown on that last photograph and after that one on the other end of
the building. You don't have photographs of the other city Fish
and Chips shops namely Rideout and Leeks, I think they were
called. Cheers Ken

Nice to meet you Ken. One advantage of being a
stay-at-home and long retired is time! Here are some Kingsmead Square
pictures. Ridouts & Fishy Evans were varied in our family. Often the
latter on Saturday lunchtime and the former after the Theatre Royal or
Beau Nash Cinema (now a club!). You could just catch the last No.11 bus
to Larkhall if you were served quickly! Not sure where you are. We had
great fish & chips in New Zealand two years back! Cannot recall
Leeks. Where were they? Graham

Hi Guys.
Just in case you missed my earelier posting re fish and chip shops in Bath.
Evans' is no more, its now a ladies dress emporium! Shouldn't be alowed.
It's a job to find a chippy in the city now, but discovered one on my last visit in Kingsmead Square
diagonally opposite to where the entrance to the old dinner hall used to be.
Looks a very smart place, apparently has won several awards.
Unfortunately as we were there on a Sunday morning they were closed so
could not try it out.
Good photos Graham, cracking photo of the old tech college and the demolished Beau St Baths.
Didn't realise that the old sweety shop opposite the Modellers
Den was run by an Ex England rugby player, but remember his Mrs and
her lipstick. Why were we not told about the under the counter Health
and Efficiency as part of our biology lessons? I think Stan was very
remiss there!
Getting late so got to go now, be on again before the week end is out. Back to Burnley next week.
If I spend much more time up there I shall have to get a flat 'at and a whippet.
Have fun.

Best of luck Sticky, Feel for us. Just off to The
Gower for a week. I hope the Welsh have not closed the Severn Bridge
again. Funny how the toll is always into Wales but never back!! There is
still some good Fish & Chips to be had in Oldfield Park not far
from the Scala.

Hi All,
That must be Herbie's Plaice in Mooorland Road owned by our own Herbie the Hermit, Malcolm Buhr.

Hi All, Interesting that you are visiting the
Gower David. My family comes from Port Eynon, a tiny
seaside village at the Gower. As a young lad my father
actually sold ice creams on the beach there. Ken

Hi Chaps, We are Gower converts! What a great
place. Weather of course helped. Stayed at South Gate in an annex to
Hael Farm. Had twin daughters & one husband with us. I am knackered
after climbing so many cliffs! Cannot believe that such a pleasant place
is only 100 miles away. Even saw Port Eynon. Dick Barton's Fish &
Chips near The Mumbles was almost 1960s quality. Most certainly will go
again. Graham

Hi Graham and all.
Glad you've discovered the delights of South Wales, Graham.
I often work there, from the valleys right along to Fishguard. The
coastline is largely rugged and unspoiled especially the western
end and whether you want to walk, watch the wild life or just chill,
it's a great place to be. Even some of the old industrial areas around
the valleys and Cardiff have now been completely turned around and are
very attractive. As an example take the Millenium Stadium, a superb
venue, completed on time, within budget and very successful. Now compare
that to Wembly which apparently is still not right!!!!
Ah well, mustn't get up on me soap box.
Looks like the site is settling down again now following the unsolicited intervention by Microsoft.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!
Regards to all.

Hi all, glad you enjoyed your break on the Gower Graham,
we have had some great holidays there in the past in our motorhome and
in fact the plan is to get a break in over there this year in July. Seems
a shame that Microsoft had to interfere with the site but it appears to
have settled down now and I know that we shall get used to it as we
have before (nothing stays the same). We hav,nt heard from Stu so
must presume he still headbanging at the Llama festival, weather has
been pretty good on the whole here in Frome but has just clouded over
with a quick shower in the last few hours. Our town hero managed a
second place behind Lewis Hamilton in Canada so if we can,nt win at
football at least we can win F1 races.

Thanks for the comments re. The Gower. Inside UK either
Cornwall or Suffolk (Walberswick) have been our favourites for years so
good to have a new one. Can see why a motor home would work. However
some of those narrow lanes would require better driving skills than
mine! Perhaps if I visit Frome some of JB's will rub off! Missed the
Microsoft problems. I use Firefox and this ruddy Vista so not sure if my
experience is typical. Most members do not have an image on my screen,
but then some of my pictures came out as icons too. By gad Bill would have loved teaching with computers if they had existed.
Cheers Graham
