Hi Graham and all.
Interesting, the idea of a youth cycling on a public highway with a
sword on his crossbar, wonder what plod would make of that these days?
People wonder why we are nostalgic about times gone by when life was so
much more easy going. I think that says it all.
I wondered if you would realise that the meadow and woodland
mentioned was part of the Methuen estate, but I don't suppose that
anyone would be over bothered by your little mission. I think
you will agree when you see it, that it raises the question 'Why build a
bridge there in the first place?' Is it just a folly or did it once
have a purpose? I will leave you to ponder.
Well guys, its getting late and I have to be up at five in the
morning to go back to Burnley for the week so must get on. In the mean
time, just a mention that we attended the Three Counties Show on Friday.
Had an absolutely super day, met up with a lot of old friends that
attend our show at Kemble and a great deal of tea etc
consumed (driving I'm afraid!) Saw a terrific equestrian display
team that would be a`real bonus if we could get them for our
2011 event, but we shall see!
Finally re Midford viaduct, Anth. The photos to which I was
referring were the ones of the construction with the formwork in place
and the contractors railway along the towpath of the coal canal. I
was fairly sure this was Midford, the one that carries the S and D but
there may have been a misunderstanding of the subject
matter. Perhaps you could confirm.
Shall be in touch again next week end.
Have fun.
Sticky.
