Hi All Sound familiar? "The government is working with the former Tory schools secretary Lord Baker to set up a new generation of technical schools to train teenagers to become builders, technicians and engineers."

Cheers

Now there`s novel !1 .. I wonder if the idea will catch on in the current climate ... non Academic education after 14 years of age.... whatever next? Will we be breeding a new generation of factory workers?

Perhaps Latin will become  the new International Scientific Institute language standard at the same time !
ISI, ISI .. Baby.

Sun has returned to Timsbury, been exposing the flesh in the sunny conservatory ....just topping up the Tan ... nothing more exciting than that ... muscles are too stiff for anything else.   Regards.

Even more ironic is that this is Kenneth Baker, elevated to Baron Baker of Dorking, who, as Secretary of State for Education introduced the National Curriculum in the 1988 Education Act! (He also stole 5 teachers' 'occasional' holiday days and used them for compulsory in-service training. They were still called 'Baker Days' when I retired. Not many occupations have ever had a cut in their holiday allowances without any extra pay). It was a great tragedy that Technical Schools closed. Although I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer the all-round education, skills & interests that Weymouth House & Bm-Hs generated in me stood me in good stead in academia. One advantage I always had was a (limited) ability with hand tools, an interest in how things work and no fear of mucking in. Now that Culverhay will soon be vacant it would be good if Bath invited Dyson back to open that technical academy again.
