Hi Stu
I'm told they make nice caps! Shame you have claimed the fifth
ammendment regarding the young ladies, I will just have to use my
imagination. Looks like you will have the weather to fire up the BBQ and
watch the game, I do hope Spain win! I cannot imagine what it is going
to be like being in a bar with a couple of hundred Spaniards if they
lose!!!
It's been good talking about young ladies, football and rock
concerts on Lambridge, Bracing myself for Sticky who will be back soon
in his oily overalls drooling over some engine or other!!!!
Have fun in the sun!
Cheers me amigos

Hello Guys, I`m back .. the caps Stu .. not sure about the sizes anymore .. but they are guaranteed waterproof !! .. ha ha.
Memory
man .. I`m flattered ... sure I can remember a few bits about Lambridge
.. the field held a travelling amusement fair in 1963, with all the
usual scary rides .. I went there to meet a girl I was to become
besotted with. We went out together for about 2 years until I was 17. I
got myself a bike .. she got herself a boyfriend with a car.
I`m
not sure about the american cars, but that field with the horse-trough
outside the entrance was used quite a lot by most travelling fairs and
side shows of all sorts. Never did go there again apart from the summer
of 1963, so sorry .. cannot provide any more info.
Regards

The nice young lady on my arm Steve, just some floozy I picked up somewhere, haha.
Bill, as I remember the regular fairground at Lambridge was next to
the Walcot rugby club ground, the occasion I was asking about was when
Ronnie Lane, ex Small Faces, and his band Slim Chance, toured the
country in a circus tent along with clowns jugglers etc, (no animals),
the whole enterprise was something of a flop, local councils being
unwilling to grant permits etc, but I'm sure this gig took place at
Lambridge.
PS. Steve getting tickets to see Muddy Waters Jnr. & his band for next Friday, will let you know how good.

Hi all.
Yes I'm back! Oily overalls and all. Got through six pairs this week and yes, it was oil! Why six, don't ask.
I love some of the threads that have been running since my
departure. Don't think those caps that the Dutch have would go well
with a whippet though, even if they are waterproof! Needed to be though
rained nearly all day at Burnley on Thursday.
To persue the pasty theme we always get ours at work from
Portreath, we have a customer there and any time anyone visits they
bring some back, but we have to order them the day before by phone. I'm
told by our local 'Expert' that Ivor Dooneys at Plymouth used to be very
good also. Regarding watering holes, one of my favourites is the London
Inn at Padstow, two or three pints of Cornish Cream in there and I'm
anybodys. All good fun though. I think it's the only catering
establishment in the town not owned by bloody Rick Stein!
I'm afraid I can't comment on the travelling shows at Bath as it
was slightly out of our scope as kids, we all went to the fair when they
came to the rec at Corsham, usually Rogers's, we got quite friendly
with the fair kids and used to help fill the diesel tanks etc, hand
pumping from a 45 gallon drum. I seem to remember that the boss always
used to wear a bowler hat. In more recent years because of my
association with shows I have got to know many showmen and believe me
they are 'Salt of the earth' There are the Jennings up in the
midlands, old Mr Jennings senior was known as the gentleman showman,
he is officially retired now but still does a turn on the rides
occasionally (To keep his hand in). Had a long chat with him about two
years ago at the Three Counties Show.
Mike Rule and family also the Dorman brothers that come to the
Kemble show are all super people, a bit out of their home territory as
they are both home counties showmen from the Essex area but I always
make a point of having a chat to hear all the latest happenings.
At one of our club nights about two years ago we had a slide show
given by a well known fairground photographer, the subject being vintage
show transport. The meeting was publicised in Worlds Fair. So many
people turned up that it was difficult to fit everyone in the room, all
the extra visitors were showmen and I know that four of them came down
from the Manchester area!
I'm rambling on again, got to go, it's getting late.
Have fun.
Sticky.

Good to know you are well oiled Sticky! Have enjoyed the
London Inn in Padstow a few times too. Used to hire a cottage at
St.Issey at Half Terms. Never managed the May Day event though. One of
the Hobby Horses used to be hung up in the pub. If I recall that is
where I discovered the delights of a pint of Doom Bar! Another pastie
hunt to complete! Cannot add to fairground discussion. I think one still visits Corsham on a regular basis. Will
be heading to Beltring in Kent in two weeks time. A 'Military Odyssey'
at the Hop Farm. More armoured vehicles in one place for a week than the
British Army possesses! Everything from a German Tiger down to Jeeps
etc. Arena in action daily. One year there was a WW2 dogfight overhead
with genuine Spitfires & Hun craft and they even strafed the arena
(placed charges and synchronised blank firing!). Very real. Plenty of
oily overalls and even the odd tractor modified for military use. Will
spend a happy day scouring the hundreds of stalls and will probably end
up with yet more scrap iron here! Enjoy your rest from the Frozen North! Graham

Hi all
Just thought you would like to know that this is no. 69 (my
favourite number!) for the discussion "Football". This is a record
beating the previous 63 for "Spanish Inqusition"!! Don't you just love
useless information?
Enjoy the heatwave, 38C here today.
Cheers

Hi Stu and all.
I thought Turkey was something you ate not went to.
Seriously though I know a guy that's married to a Turkish girl and
as a result they visit quite regularly. The only feedback I've heard
from him is that they enjoy good food and plenty of it. Dave is not
exactly a stranger to food he always eats as though it's his last meal
but his Turkish inlaws say he eats like a bird. We all said yep, a
vulture!!!
Can't think what the significance of 96 and 69 is. What comes to
mind is the council employee stood beside a pond shouting 'Come in
69..........Oh! Are you having trouble 96?' Or alternatively the Chinese
Restaraunt owner that asked his wife for a 69 and she said 'If you
think I cooking this time of night you got another think coming'.
Glad you take an active interest in military vehicles Graham, we
usaually have eighty or ninety at our show. John Keedwell our rally
manager is a military 'nut' he owns a 6WD REO truck, you may have seen
it around it has 'Southbend Thunderer' signwritten across the bonnet.
You mention the Tiger, although I do not necessarily agree with
the reason for its creation, that said one can not help but admire
the engineering expertise that went into this awsome machine, probably
an example of German engineering at its best considering the conditions
under which they were manufactured. Always something to entertain the
punters at military shows.
Getting late again, got to go.
Sticky.

Actually Steve it's the destination for this years hols, we're
having a year off from chasing round remote parts of the globe,
travelling's great as you know, but we need a holiday, so it's a few
Roman/Greek ruins, I hear the antiquities are pretty good too, and some
early autumn sun, a few good books, ipod, beer, raki, some more beer,
wine, more beer, food, anything I've forgotten ?

Nice bottle of red under my belt. All the neighbours
quiet with tele screens flickering. Anything on tonight? Fountain
trickling away in the garden and the World is calm. (Except for the
beeps this damned laptop is making!) Is there some footie ending today? A
few years of sanity in store? Had lamb not turkey tonight but can be
tempted. Neighbours now rent out their house as they moved to Turkey.
Seem to like it. Cheaper without Euro and wife does not have to wear a
yashmac yet! Sounds possible from the riots in Byzantium (whoops
Istanbul). Heading to Crete in October after No.2 daughter's wedding.
Any tips? How to dodge a tsunami might be helpful? Graham
