Hi Bill, I would imagine that caused a fair amount of damage to the exaust and floorpan, seems strange that the AA van stopped towing, its a wonder that he did,nt carry on and drag the thing off

Hi Tony,
Looks like a "put up" job to me ... the van does appear to try and pull when the car is right up .. is the A.A. sign a bit too big on the side of tyhe van? .. that`s what m,akes me think it was a timed event, normally that sort of security system has a "ground loop" to detect vehicles in the "stop zone".

All access entry systems I have installed normally have such a safety  feature. I had to install a motorised wireless entry gates system .. with infra-red detectors and "pulnix" twin  peams to detect for the horse riding wife of the family at Carligcott Cottage.

Ah well, all in a days work eh? .. P.S. Summer House and shed security completed, ready for inspection ... regards.

Got to spoil the fun with a detailed explanation hasn't he Tony, to date I haven't seen the AA tow anything with a length of rope, they either use a fixed bar or a truck, i.e. set up.

I looked closely Tony to see if I could spot a snorkel on the air intake and high level exhaust, couldn't see them, doesn't mean they weren't there and with a diesel engine it would keep running, don't think I would have tried it though. Have you seen Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boormans 'Long Way Round' and some of the river crossings they did on the Road of Bones in Eastern Siberia ?

He looks as if he has lost it at one point and is out of his depth when the river apears to take the back end round but then out of nowhere it gets a grip and out he comes.
No I never did get to see Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boormans 'Long Way Round' but I have just finished reading 'The Long Way Down', must see if I can download it somewhere.

Hi Stu, have just finished watching "Long Way Down" and "Long Way Round" in full and I must admit some of the river crossings were pretty hairy with a bike of that weight, I don,t understand why they carried all that kit with the backup team following and why they chose such a heavy bike.
I must admit that it is better to read the book first and then watch the video as there is so much left out of both the video and the book.
Weather is a bit dull and overcast here at the moment and is a bit of a letdown after the last few weeks, it should pick up again soon hopefully as we have some more work in the garden to complete, hope everyone is well.

Hi Guys,  If those security bollards are like the ones we have at our Parliament House and at the various Embassys in this town then a second car cannot follow the first car across them.  They do not work like a normal security gate, the main aim being to keep a second or following vehicle out.  A would be or likely terriorist is expected to try and gain entry by tailgating. The boom gate is not necessary in this instance either.  In my time driving Government cars here, I have seen a couple of cars that have tried to follow a first car across the bollards and the second car has been severly damaged, not quite a write off. The only way for two cars to cross them is if they are manually controlled.   Ken

Hi all.
This weather a bit better for you Anth? The forcast was 72 F for today and I'm prepared to believe it!
I've had the dubious pleasure of working in a stinking hot factory at Mansfield, great fun!
Had a good run this week, Tuesday at Cwmfelinfach, South Wales, Wednesday in Kent, near Goudhurst, today and tomorrow, Mansfield. Next week shall be at Stoke on Trent for the week so shall not be able to enjoy your accumulated pearls of wisdom, or stick my oar in unnecessarily!
Thanks for clearing up the technicalities of security bollards, Ken, it's all fairly obvious once explained.
Got to go now as it's getting late and I have to be up at five fifteen in the morning.
Have fun.
Sticky.
